Ezra and Guy

Curled up in a dark and cold corner, clutching his pillow to his heaving chest, Ezra sits quietly listening to the mad sounds coming from the other side of the all too thin door that imprisons him in his room. 

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!

The door rattles on its hinges as yet again his father inflicts the abuse he wishes to  submit Ezra to on the unsuspecting piece of wood.

“You little bastard!  Just wait, JUST YOU WAIT!  They can’t protect your scrawny little ass for long! Then, then…”  The voice wavering with hysterical laughter fades away as heavy footsteps fall down the hallway.

BANG!

Ezra jumps at the sound of a door slamming closed squeezing his eyes shut and releasing another shaky breath.

“So far, so good” he whispers into the cold empty room before exhaustion takes him into its sweet embrace.
